Suo Masayoki

(1956- ). Film director. Best known for his comedy Shall We Dance? (1996). Born in Tokyo; graduated from Rikkyo University. His films include Hentai kazoku - Aniki no yomesan (1983; Abnormal Family - My Brother's Wife), Fanshii dansu (1989; Fancy Dance), and Shiko Funjatta (1992; Sumo Do, Sumo Don't), which won the Japanese Academy Award for best film in 1992. Following the release of Shall We Dance?, Suo married the film's leading lady, Kusakari Tamiyo. (from "Suo, Masayuki." Britannica Book of the Year, 1998.
