Kanamori Tokujirō

(1886-1959). Government official and politician. Born in Aichi Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo University in 1912, Kanamori entered the Ministry of Finance and in 1934 was appointed director-general of the Cabinet Legislative Bureau. In 1946 he became minister of state in the first Yoshida Shigeru cabinet. In this capacity he was responsible for answering inquiries from the Diet on the draft of the new constitition. In response to questions about the emperor's new symbolic role, Kanamori responded that the emperor would remain "the center of national aspirations."
