Alien Registration Law

Registration of personal identity is required of all persons residing in Japan for more than one year who do not hold Japanese citizenship. The Alien Registration Law (1952) requires these residents to apply for such registration in the municipal office of their town or city within 90 days of entering Japan. Information required includes applicant's name, date and place of birth, sex, nationality, occupation, port of entry, passport number, and address while in Japan.
