Kojiki

(Record of Ancient Matters). Japan's oldest chronicle, recording events from the mythical age of the gods up to the time of Empress Suiko (r. 593-628). It is a collection of oral traditions compiled by Ō No Yasumaro and presented to the reigning Empress Genmei (r. 707-715) in 712. The oldest surviving manuscript of the Kojiki is a scroll copied in the years 1371-72. This manuscript is stored in the Shinpukuji temple in Nagoya. (adapted from Japan: An Illustrated Encyclopedia.
