Buzen Province

Present-day Ōita. Located in northeastern Kyūshū. Its terrain is largely mountainous. Ōita remains primarily agricultural, with its principal crops being rice, mandarin oranges, and vegetables. Cattle breeding, forestry, and fishing are also important. Ōita has numerous hot spring resorts, including the popular Beppu. Major cities include Ōita, Beppu, Nakatsu, Hita, and Saiki.
